Gene Chips and Software Reading Group

Announcement: The reading group has come to a successful completion. Thank you for your participation, and we look forward to working with you and your group on this and other related resaerch areas. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Bibliography: Visit the newly updated bibliography page. More papers have been added, links to related patents are listed, and articles distributed in the group have been notated.
Description: During the first five weeks of Spring Term 1999 we are organizing a reading group on recent results in gene chips and functional genomics software. Gene chips are the foundation of the new field of functional genomics that is building on the sequencing results produced by ongoing structural genome projects. We will be learning about the latest in gene chip technologies by reading research papers and talking with guest lecturers in the field. A theme for the reading group will be how computing technologies could radically influence and improve this nascent field. Topics will include:
  • a broad overview of gene chips and their uses
  • gene chip design and engineering
  • experimental protocols for using gene chips
  • results from current gene chip research programs
  • how gene chips are used by different communities of biologists
  • contemporary gene chip data analysis software
  • new gene chip technologies in development
